Baicalin is a flavonoid compound extracted and isolated from the dried roots of the dicotyledonous plant Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi. It is a pale yellow powder at normal temperature with a bitter taste. Insoluble in methanol, ethanol, acetone, slightly soluble in chloroform and nitrobenzene, almost insoluble in water, soluble in hot acetic acid. It appears green when it comes to ferric chloride, and orange precipitate when it comes to lead acetate. Soluble in alkali and ammonia, it will be yellow in the beginning, but will turn black and brown soon. Has significant biological activity, has antibacterial, diuretic,anti-inflammatory, cholesterol lowering, antithrombotic, alleviating asthma, purging fire and detoxifying, hemostasis, tocolysis,anti-allergic and antispasmodic effects. It is also a mammalian liver sialidase. Specific inhibitors have the effect of regulating certain diseases and also have strong anti-cancer response physiological efficacy.
Baicalin, bitter taste, cold, heat, drying, detoxification, hemostasis, antiseptic effect.It is mainly used for warm and hot disease, upper respiratory tract infection, lung hot cough, damp and hot yellow bile, pneumonia, dysentery, hemoptysis, eye red, fetal movement restlessness, hypertension, carbuncle, swelling and furuncle sores.The clinical antibacterial property of scutellaria scutellaria is better than that of rhizoma coptidis, and does not produce drug resistance.
