Rhamnose Monohydrate is a methyl pentose sugar and has properly been classified as one of the rarer sugars. This sugar is a constituent of many glycosides. The rhamnoglycoside of quercetin (rutin) has been most often used as a source of rhamnose and after its hydrolisis, it yields the aglycon and L-Rhamnose.
Rhamnose Monohydrate powder is a raw material for the chemical synthesis, a strawberry flavour. At present this is dependent on chemical synthesis, Now direct extraction isolation and purefication from fruits is not costly and in China there are many herbal resources.
Rhamnose, 6-Deoxy-L-Mannopyranose, is extracted from the hydrolytic liquid of quercetin in white crystalline granules or crystalline powder. As the rare monosaccharide existed in the nature, it can be used for assaying intestinal permeability or used as sweetener. It can also be used to synthesize glycosyl groups of cardiac drugs and fragrances.

This is unusual since most of the naturally-occurring sugars are in D-form. Exceptions are the methyl pentoses L-fucose and L-rhamnose and the pentose L-arabinose.
